At the top of Montmartre is the Sacré Coeur Basilica, built as a memorial to the many French people who lost their lives during the Franco-Prussian War. Completed in 1914 but not consecrated until 1919, it became symbolic of France's revenge against Germany for their defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. One of the most visited monuments in Paris, it is designed in the form of a Greek cross, crowned with four domes, representing Jesus glorified by the Catholic Church and France. On its ceiling you will find the largest mosaic in the world.
