Designed by the young French architect Charles Garnier in the nineteenth century, the Palais Garnier opera house, often called the Opéra Garnier, presents an eclectic mix of architectural styles, with a predominantly baroque interior. The opera-house typifies the style associated with France's Second Empire period (1852-1870), symbolising luxury, culture and the pleasures of Paris.
It is also the largest theatre in Europe.
